With nearly 20 years of professional design experience, Mr. Sakamoto has worked in an array of different areas including entertainment, retail, food, technology, action sports, consumer goods, recording artists, and corporate accounts. A seasoned creative, he possesses the rare adeptness of combining left-brain marketing strategy with a right-brain hand – to create powerful, effective design. His many abilities range from strategic thinking, brand development, identity and packaging design, advertising concepts, copywriting, illustration, and he possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
An accomplished designer, Mr. Sakamoto has received numerous industry awards, including a Best of Category Trophy from the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles and a 2004 Gold Medal from The West Coast Show. His most notable distinction was being nominated for a Grammy® for Best Packaging Design. Mr. Sakamoto’s work has been displayed at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, and has been featured in numerous books on graphic design including the publications Print Magazine and Graphis.
Mr. Sakamoto studied graphic design and packaging at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and graduated with honors under a full tuition scholarship. Previously he attended the Otis College of Art and Design and El Camino College. He has been a guest lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design and is a graduate of the Coaches Training Institute, San Rafael, CA.
Residing in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, his hobbies outside of work include surfing, skateboarding and running. His interests also include collecting mid-century modern furniture, photography, filmmaking and spending quality time with his wife and two children.
